Out of sight – out of mind! This is a common cause of many of the problems we see in the flower trade. The three main invisible enemies are bacteria, botrytis and ethylene. The first two are micro-organisms and the latter is a natural hormone associated with the natural biological processes of various plants approaching an advanced age (senescence). Flower businesses that adopt best practices will address these effectively by following strict hygiene and handling guidelines.
Bacteria spores are abundant in our environment and will grasp any opportunity to grow and multiply.
