Chemcert Workshop

Chemcert Training - This is a full day course with some pre-reading. All farms who use or apply agrochemicals should have at least one Chemcert qualified staff member. This qualification also needs to be renewed every 5 years. To register for and upcoming workshop contact NGIQ.

Bundaberg Grower Meeting - 17th May 2012

This was held at Bundaberg Research Station, 49 Ashfield Road, Kalkie Qld. It’s was a great opportunity for those involved in the industry, large and small, to get together and share experiences and pick up new information, learn about energy efficiency, solar systems and how to make on farm savings through your electricity tariffs. Attendees also had the chance to speak one on one with a local agronomist about plant nutrition and disease control issues that effects your farm. Topics covered included solar energy, electricity tariffs & running your pump efficiently, plant nutrition & disease control and Reef Rescue.

Grantham Grower Workshop - ‘Harnessing the sun’s energy’ - 29th February 2012

Over 30 growers attended a successful grower shed meeting and farm tour at Tamor Roses, Grantham, this was followed by a farm tour to Lockyer Cut Flowers, Mt Sylvia. Derek Scholte (Tamor Roses) and Stephen & Lisa Spierling (Lockyer Cut Flowers) farms were wiped out by the raging torrent of water that swept through their properties in the floods of 2011 and have both made remarkable progress in rebuilding their businesses since then.

Derek showcased his new solar energy infrastructure and spoke about real energy savings made in the greenhouse. The day was capped off by a trip to Mt Sylvia to see the solar system at Stephen’ and Lisa's property. Here, there is no connection to the power grid, so participants saw a completely different production system using solar energy.

Flowers 2011

Queensland was proud to be the host of Flowers 2011 - The Australian Flower Conference, held on Tuesday 12th - Thursday 14th July 2011 with an Industry tour on Friday 15th July 2011 at the Sebel & Citigate Hotel, King George Square - Brisbane Qld. The conference was designed for both growers and florists with a strong focus on providing attendees with information that has immediate practical and commercial applications for their business.
