| About FAQI |
The Flower Association of Queensland Inc (FAQI) is the Queensland
cut flower and foliage industry State peak body. Our membership
includes traditional flower and Australian native and tropical
flower and foliage growers, commodity, regional
and commercial groups, and allied traders.
Queensland Flower Growers was formed in 1988 and in 1998 commenced its role as the peak industry organisation for the Queensland cut flower and foliage industry. Our members also include equipment and installation suppliers, wholesalers, exporters, florists, specialist consultants and advisors, researchers and educators.
Today, FAQI is recognised as the industry's peak State body representing its members to government, technical agencies and other industry groups. FAQI is also the publisher of the Australian Flower Industry magazine which has a distribution of 2,500 to distribute information on current industry issues and events
FAQI current initiatives include:
- Facilitating support for a national industry survey to identify issues being faced by the industry nationally and identify the most common issues experienced by differrent types of grower (e.g. inground and hydroponic etc.)
- Organising grower workshops facilitated by national and international industry experts
- Organising international Study Tours for growers to ensure Australia's cut flower industry remains competitive and sustainable in the longer term by embracing innovation and employing world's best practice; and
- coordinating important research and development projects in the areas of
- Optimisation of Irrigation for Key Wildflower/Native Crops
- Energy Efficiency in Australian Glasshouse Horticulture
- Applications to APVMA for usage of specialist cut flower chemicals treatment

| FAQI Objectives |
To develop and maintain a sustainable, profitable and efficient flower production and marketing industry, which is commercially focused and works successfully with other stakeholders to expand domestic and export demand for its products.
We aim to do this by:
- Representing the Flower Association of Queensland Inc. and its members in an advocacy role to government, regulatory and technical agencies and other industry groups
- Encouraging and supporting local grower groups and be a focus for statewide interaction
- Collecting, producing and distributing information to members through conferences, seminars, newsletters and workshops
- Maintaining an active communication network with relevant stakeholders and allied industry organisations
- Promoting the inherent efficiency and sustainability of our growing systems ie. inground and hydroponic to enable these businesses to become more successful and profitable
- Encouraging and supporting relevant research and development activities.
FAQI's activities are set and prioritised through industry consultation activities such as the exercise to create cut flower industry planning documents which act as a guide for both FAQI and others in the industry on actions that need to be taken to achieve identified industry development goals. |
| Membership Information |
FAQI has four categories of membership:
- Commercial grower
- Associate member*
- Allied trader
- Grower group
To be eligible for membership in one of the above categories, the following criteria is adopted:
- Commercial cut flower and foliage growers (traditional flower and wildflower/native growers
- Anyone whose major business is supplying the commercial cut flower and foliage industry
- Anyone who derives income from consulting to the commercial cut flower and foliage industry
- Anyone who supports the commercial cut flower and foliage industry through research, extension or educational activities
- Anyone whose major business is in retail supplying floriculture products to the market; and,
- anyone else with an interest in the floriculture industy
* Associate Members enjoy all the benefits of full members with the exception of voting rights.

All members with the exception of Associate Members in the above categories are eligible to vote and hold office within the Flower Association of Queensland Inc.
The Flower Association of Queensland Inc. Executive Committee reserves the right to reject applications and to review and terminate membership. Grounds for rejection will be provided.

The Flower Association of Queensland Inc. offers the following benefits to its members:
Representation
- FAQI represents the industry's views to Government, external funding bodies such as Horticulture Australia Ltd (HAL), the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicine Authority (AVPMA) and Biosecurity Australia (BA). FAQI also works closely with the Queensland Farmers Federation (QFF) and grower organisations in each State.
Information
- The Industry Development Officer provides a communication coordination role, an effective link to government services and information, and a central point of contact for enquiries.
- FAQI communiques provide information on FAQI activities and industry developments affecting your business. These include:
- FAQI E-Bulletins
- FAQI Website
- Regular emails keeping you up-to-date at all times
- Dissemination of other relevant publications e.g. Farm Safety News, RIRDC Research Updates
- Dissemination of information from Wildflowers Australia Ltd
- FAQI publishes and distributes information useful to the floriculture industry
- Proceedings from past conferences and specialist publications can be purchased directly from FAQI
- The Australian Flower Industry magazine
- Free subscription to
the Australian Flower Industry Magazine. Now into
its 19th issue, this magazine is a quarterly publication
addressing developments in the industry for both growers and florists.
- Grower Focus: FAQI provides members with up-to-date information on current industry issues, techincial issues, R&D Updates, coming events and news from State-based grower groups. The magazine also contains a useful Trade Directory to help growers source equipment and supplies as well as technical assistance.
- Florist Focus: FAQI provides retailers and florists with up-to-date information on current industry issues, technical issues, coming events and news from State-based floriculture organisations.
Research & Development
- FAQI identifies industry problems and negotiates and funds research projects on issues identified as high priority and highly relevant to industry's needs. Research results are provided to FAQI members as well as information to enable them to access other useful results.
- A R&D voluntary contribution fund is coordinated by FAQI to support these projects.
Education & Training
- Information on training and educational opportunities,
both as formal courses and informal meetings/seminars,
is provided to its members. Specialised industry
activities are also organised and/or coordinated
by FAQI and its member groups to directly benefit
its members. Where ever possible subsidised training opportunities are accessed on behalf of growers.
Industrial Benefits
- For members paying the extra industrial
levy only. Nursery Growers Industry of Queensalnd (NGIQ) provides these members with
industrial and legal representation and up-to-date
information eg regular newsletters.
- Additionally, FAQI is actively working on industrial
issues relevant to our industry.
Promotion
- FAQI actively promotes the Queensland Floriculture Industry
at state, national and international levels.
Marketing Opportunities
- Discount advertising opportunities in FAQI publications
are provided to FAQI members
- Allied traders can provide presentations at meetings/seminars.
Trade days can be organised
- The Industry Contacts Database on the FAQI website
gives allied traders and growers alike an opportunity
to obtain a presence on the Internet and so, better
publicise their business
- Potential customers enquiring into any floriculture
products or services are linked to our members.

- FAQI provides an ever-strengthening
voice on issues directly affecting our industry
and our members’ business success. This
includes greater success in influencing existing
markets, accessing new markets and making more
funding opportunities attainable.
